Notes for DANIEL L. PERKINS:

In 1836 Daniel and his brother John Hill Perkins went to Ada, Kent County, Michigan and purchased some land. John did not like the west and returned home to New York. Daniel came back briefly to New York, but returned to Ada, Michigan until his death. He also owned some land with John in Livingston County as it was mentioned in the will of John Hill Perkins. He was named executor in his father's will, and in his mother's will he is mentioned as being the owner of the house where she died, although not home at the time (1847). He is listed in the 1850 census as living with his sister Harriet and her husband Chester Dewey. Lucy Moore is listed in the 1850 census living with the family of Norman Green(e) in Geneseo. It is surmised that they married shortly after. They returned to Ada, Michigan after their first child was born. He is also listed in various census records living with Marie Perkins. He must have married her sometime after returning to Michigan. She was a sister to Lucy. It is apparent he was either a bigamist, or took Marie as a common law wife, as he continued fathering children with both Marie and Lucy. In 1875 Marie petitioned the Livingston Surrogate Court for land in Livingston County that was jointly owned by Daniel and his brother John. Daniel having died in 1871. She claims it as his widow, and lists all their living children.
